As I confessed on Twitter this morning: "powering through a calf strain today #calfstrain #tennisover40" I'm actually off to a rocky start with this STP training gig. On Saturday though, I did get out for a first test ride, along with my hubby, on the Cannondale and tried out the clip-in shoe/pedal system. It was wild! I almost plowed into the ground at the first pedal stroke, but caught myself in time. I was too afraid to go in traffic, so we rode on a bike trail near the house. I'll do another, longer ride this weekend. As V mentions, the light situation here is nonexistent after 5:30 pm so evening rides are out until March-ish.
Back to the calf. Can I whine for a little bit? I went to spin class on Sunday and felt great, best class in awhile. And on Monday evening, I was doing a "cardio tennis" class, which was going well until I felt that tell-tell twinge in my left calf, and said "uh oh" and immediately plopped on the court to stretch. Because I can walk around without a cane (a story for another time), I think it'll take less than 2 weeks to recover, and light bike-riding will actually help it. But now I'm back to daily resistance band workouts. #overcomingSTPobstacles |
